Kashiragashima Church

Catholics in the late 19th-century Japan were persecuted for their beliefs, and so, escaped to Kamigoto Island. Domingo Mori Matsujiro, a Catholic of the day, used his home for prayer and Catholic faith training. Now, this beautiful sandstone church stands at the site where Domingo Mori’s house was, and later, where a wooden church served the parish in hiding.

The interior is a spacious place of worship still used today and it is an Important Cultural Property and part of the "Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region" UNESCO heritage.

Hamaguri Beach

The sunset over the horizon of Hamaguri Beach is an unforgettable scene. Let your love of sand and sunshine take a dive in the pristine waters at Hamaguri. Voted as one of Japan's top 100 beaches, Hamaguri will impress every weary beachgoer. Celebrate the summer in beach-style, with sand art festivals and Marine Day events in July; you’ll love kayaking in these turquoise waters and other family-friendly events. For an extended stay, find camping and barbeque facilities at the nearby Arikawa Youth Travel Village.

Toraya

Founded in 1986, Toraya produces some of the island’s finest food products. From packaged handmade noodles using handmade salt extracted from the Goto Sea to pickled ago, or flying fish, that reminds you a little of anchovies perhaps. Toraya has some splendid food products that you’ll enjoy eating on long after your trip to Kamigoto has finished. While you’re there be sure to try their dine-in area to explore the wealth of flavors that all of their products has to offer.

A free tour of the Udon and Salt Factory is possible via advance reservation, though large groups and tastings will incur a charge. A new factory is also expected to be established later in 2020.

Margherita Kogushi

Goto Islands Resort Hotel Margherita Kogushi faces the sea and offers lodgers a chance to enjoy the island life for an extended stay. With 29 rooms—the same number as the number of churches on the island—Margherita Kogushi also offers indoor and outdoor hot spring facilities. Kiri Church

Kiri Church had its humble beginnings as the first parish of Goto in 1897. However, it was not until 1958 that the awe-inspiring church upon the hill visitors know today was built. For more than 70 years, the white walls and red roof of Kiri Church has served as a beacon of hope and light to those searching for a monument of worship. The church is still functioning and mass is carried out daily.

Ota Seimenjo

Ota Seimon-jo offers some of Kamigoto Island’s most delicious cuisine. With more than 100 years of history beneath their belt, this noodle shop has been making their udon for generations. Established in 1919, Ota Seimon-jo offers a way of eating udon that is true Kamigoto culture. Enjoy their authentic Goto udon by scooping up freshly boiled noodles and dipping them in a broth made of the local specialty of flying fish freshly caught from the Goto Sea.

Hatashita (Agoyaki Experience)

The flying fish caught in the Goto Sea are an island delicacy and what better way to get acquainted with the fish than experiencing an ago-yaki (grilling flying fish)? Using the traditional charcoal-based method, let a teacher guide your hand to create the perfect grilled fish which will be dried and shipped to you to enjoy later!

Gotonada Brewery

With such vibrant natural surroundings full of life, ocean air, and crisp waters, it’s no wonder that the potatoes of Kamigoto Island are blessed with a delicious and full taste. This deep flavor provides the perfect beginning for Goto Nada Brewery’s meticulously manufactured shochu. Their shochu—a traditional Japanese clear liquor usually made from potatoes—uses Kamigoto’s own produce and creates a spectacular taste that is wholly unique to the region. Restaurant Umigoto

Hotel Aoka’s Restaurant Umigoto allows guests to enjoy a new twist on traditional Goto cuisine. Produced by restaurant chef, Masayuki Okuda, explore the breadth of possibilities when Italian cuisine meets French techniques and is married with Kamigoto ingredients. It’s a new world of food that you can only experience at Umigoto.

Shima Dining Toraya

Try a bowl of Toraya udon noodles; the only noodle shop on Kamigoto Island that uses handmade salt in their homemade noodles. Not only is Toraya famous for their assortment of noodles and salts but you’ll be amazed by the irresistibly delicious salted flying fish (ago)—caught fresh from the local sea—pickled in a combination of rich alive and Tsubaki oils. The umami from this agonchobi (ago + anchovy) will keep you coming back for more. You won’t forget the taste of Kamigoto’s Toraya cuisine.

Restaurant Umi to Sora Maru to Hoshi

Located inside Goto Islands Resort Hotel Margherita, 'Umi to Sora Maru to Hoshi' (Sea and Sky and Stars) unites Goto Sea ingredients with Kamigoto tastes in an atmosphere of peace and quaint charm. Kotobuki Sushi Kappo

Kotobuki Sushi Kappo offers some of the freshest and most delightful sushi on Kamigoto Island. Using fish caught from the Goto Sea, Kappo will astound guests with the variety of flavors their sushi and sashimi dishes offer.
